My name is Linda Hartman and I am running for Goshen School Board of Trustees. I am running for the betterment of the kids, their parents and the teachers. I am not a politician, nor do I ever want to be. I do not have a business to promote, I am not beholden to anyone nor do I have further political aspirations. My goal is simple. To make sure that we have the best-rounded school system in Elkhart County. Our mission statement says that we are the “global school district of choice.” We need to change our focus to be the “county school district of choice.” That is where the families live and is what affects them to the greatest degree.
I grew up in Michigan, but have been a resident of this area since 1971. My husband is a graduate of GCS. We have lived here and raised our children here. We have one daughter in Goshen. We have 2 grandchildren in Goshen district. The parents have chosen to send their children to private school because of the failure of our academic system. So, they pay taxes to the local school corporation and pay tuition as well. This is not a fault of the teachers. They are merely doing the best they can with all of the constraints they have placed on them. We have lost so many good teachers in the past few years. We have to find out why and fix the problem quickly. How many teachers are on limited licenses or teaching in areas where they are not certified?
I have a BA in Special Education, a masters in Curriculum and Instruction, a Public-School Administrators License and a masters in Ministry. My professional experiences and life experiences have allowed me to be prepared to be the best board member I can be. I have learned fiscal responsibility through serving on boards and bringing 2 organizations back from financial collapse.
